CASA GRANDE
April 20, 2004
I heard Casa Grande held a meeting for bike riders to see what interest there was in bikes being allowed in the skatepark. Only a handful of riders showed up. The city decided not to allow bikes in the park, and it re-opened a few months later. Now the city is saying they will take away bikes permanently from riders that go in the skatepark. This is a prime example of what apathy will do. If you don't fight for your rights, you don't have any.

I have the inside tip tips on the Casa Grande skatepark. It is FINALLY being repaired, after a few months of sitting closed with no work going on inside the park at all. It appears that the initial closure for the summer was just a punishment for all the vandalism that signs, picnic tables and other objects in the park have received lately. A concrete guy from Chandler is repairing the damage in the park (which he is attributing directly to poor initial construction) and after it's done, it will be "evaluated" by some "expert" to see if the park can handle bikes. I would highly recommend that the Casa Grande bike riders go to the city council together and tell them you want to have a place to ride. If they won't let you ride in the skatepark, then they need to build a bikepark. I am willing to advise anyone from Casa on how to lead the riders in an effort to get the city to provide some place to ride. Casa Grande has been very good in the past about recognizing the needs of BMX riders, and I believe they will respond positively IF the riders make their voices heard.
